Dear White People becoming a series

08 May

Those of you that know me personally know that I loved the film Dear White People before it came out and even more so when it did. I love it so much I even have a t-shirt of it so when the news broke this week that Netflix has ordered a 10-episode series for 2017.

Like the film, the series will follow a diverse group of students navigating a predominantly white Ivy League college where racial tensions are often swept under the rug. The series is still in the early stages of development so it's unclear if any of the actors involved in the film will be reprising their roles but it would certainly delight me if they did.

More than the return of characters I look forward to seeing how they adapt the film to 30 minute episodes. In the run up to the films release they produced some brilliant marketing material which in no way spoiled the film but instead added to it. These videos were in effect mini-episodes so I'm hoping the series will be a similar (albeit longer) format.

I could spend all day watching those...

Bring on 2017!

If you haven't watched Dear White People yet...do.
