Quantico - Reasons to watch

Quantico

Most people will recognise the name Quantico as the famous name of the training facility for agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Now it's also the name of one of ABC's newest shows.

A diverse group of recruits has arrived at the FBI Quantico Base for training. They are the best, the brightest and the most vetted, so it seems impossible that one of them is suspected of masterminding the biggest attack on New York City since 9/11.

Leading Ladies

The fact that the shows main character Alex Parish is a woman isn't that surprising however the fact that she is played by Priyanka Chopra is. Considering the content of the show focuses on a terrorist it's quite an interesting (alebeit obvious) choice.

Her character is at the middle of the investigation of a deadly explosion in New York City. Through flashbacks, she'll determine which classmate was the one behind the attack while trying not to get caught by the authorities as she's wrongly blamed for it.

Parish has casual sex with one of the other recruits before the first day but does not shy away from this and owns her decision when confronted with an uncomfortable situation. Just like that a situation which would usually play out differently in other series is refreshingly changed.

The show also has a host of other women including Johanna Braddy, Yasmine Al Marsi and Aunjanue Ellis who are clearly going to be ones to watch from the Assistant Director of Quantico to the perky blonde who turns out to be an expert sniper.

Mystery

The entire show is built on a mystery the audience has to solve with Parish as we try to figure out which of the characters doesn't quite fit into the box they should.

If this is done right I think it could truly be great however it could also end up being a Homeland-lite with the similarities in the shows. However the mystery of the character's origins and what led up to the bombing will hopefully be interesting to watch.

Up and Coming Acting Talent

Like the characters they're playing the actors themselves are almost all up and coming talent who haven't really had huge roles in the past save a few key actors but they all have the potential to be great.

Other than Chopra the main actor that comes to the front of the pack is Jake McLaughlin who previously appeared in the short lived Believe. Hopefully this show will be more successful for him he has all the right qualities of a leading man he just needs to get some buzz around him to land more roles.

Full of twists and turns Quantico is definitely a show to watch out for this season and if nothing else will redefine some gender stereotypes when it comes to roles but hopefully it will do more than just that.
