Me Before You

Thanks to Show Film First I was able to see Me Before You...first. Well okay not "first" but I got to go to an preview screening along with a packed cinema of other people who had been lucky enough to snag a ticket. This was a week or so ago and I have only just got around to writing up a review but I could not let time pass by without doing a review of it. This review will contain spoilers so read on at your own risk if you haven't read the book already. The film takes on a very challenging subject and presents it in very honest but romanticised way. For those like me who haven't read the book the story follows two young characters in the English countryside. One is Louisa “Lou” Clark (Clarke) a quirky ...

For those who missed my brief coverage of Flatpack last year it's a festival which takes over venues across Birmingham every March. Drawing in people from far and wide with a mixture of films, performances, contraptions and surprises, and has been described as “magnificently eclectic” (Time Out), “joyously inventive” (the Guardian) and “the UK’s most creatively curated film festival” (the Independent). I went last year as a little bit of an experiment as I had only just heard about it and I immediately fell in love with it. Now entering it's 9th year as a festival the latest one looks to be a treat. The kind of work they put on depends upon the project, but recurring themes include animation, music, artists’ film, archive discoveries, offbeat shorts for kids and live cinema. They're firm believers in creating a sense ...

Sound

Thanks to a lucky break I was able to attend a very informative workshop on sound production this week at none other than the YouTube space in London! Probably the last trip I'm going to take this year for my blog (and general learning) but I can't think of a better one to close the year out with. Hiive So I'm guessing you're wondering how I was able to go to YouTube for a workshop or better yet how I found out about it. Well a few weeks ago my friend introduced me to Hiive which is like a new hub for creatives looking to learn, connect, share and/or find jobs. As I'm always looking for ways to be more creative and to dabble in as many different things in my quest to be a jack of all trades ...

London Film and Comic Con Summer

This summer's London Film and Comic Convention has just finished and what a convention it was. I don't think I've ever geeked out as much as I did in those 3 days of epicness. As those who have been reading my blog up until this point you will know that I was really looking forward to going to this ever since I bought my tickets. It did not disappoint. The largest event of it's kind in Europe it took on the lofty task of being the final European convention that Stan Lee (yes that Stan Lee) would ever attend. This effectively made it more popular this year than organisers could have predicted. Even with the event spread across 2 halls at London's Earls Court, there were still hundreds (if not thousands) of people who were unable to avoid this jam ...

LFCC

So I have decided to truly embrace being a geek this year and bought a ticket to Comic Con. Okay not the "real" Comic Con that happens in San Diego but it is the next best thing the UK has to offer; London Film and Comic Con! This year I could not pass up the opportunity to go to this event for a number of reasons but largely due to the guests that they have going. Stan Lee This year Stan Lee, the Steve Jobs of the comic book world is going. For those who aren't a geek, Stan Lee was the co-creator of Marvel superheroes we all know and love today including Spider-Man, Iron Man, Hulk and the X-Men. Unfortunately I missed the very small window of opportunity to get a ticket for an autograph or a picture with ...

The Amazing Spiderman 2

For those of you who have been living under a rock, the ever popular comic book masked menace superhero Spiderman swung back onto our screens recently and I just had to go see the film in 3D. I'm glad I did because it was awesome. A train wreck but still an awesome train wreck. With this post I will be going into what happened in the film as well as some of the stories that is based on from the comics. So for those of you who don't want it to be spoiled I would stop reading now and come back later when you have watched the film. For those who have watched it or don't care about spoilers read on!! The storyline for the film was: Peter Parker runs the gauntlet as the mysterious company Oscorp sends up a ...
