Guest Blog: 5 Movies to be Excited About in 2017
So I've been a little busy the last few weeks but the blog has not been forgotten and I will do a review of the last 2 years in a few weeks. In the mean time here's a guest blog on some movies to be excited about from a young writer who wanted to put himself out there.
Action fans have plenty of new movies to look forward to seeing in 2017. Here are five of the most exciting new features to put on your calendar after the new year.
- Transformers: The Last Knight (June 23)
Director Michael Bay indicated in a recent issue of Entertainment Weekly that this fourth sequel would kick off a new trilogy for the franchise and expand the Transformers universe fans have come to love. The movie will portray government attempts to destroy the Transformers, including a completely redesigned Megatron. In addition to the amazing effects fans have come to expect from this franchise, the film also has plenty of pedigree, with stars Mark Wahlberg, Josh Duhamel, and Anthony Hopkins on board. Production began in August 2016 in Scotland.
- Fast 8 (April 14)
Vin Diesel, who both produces and stars in this long-running franchise, notes that this sequel is the first of a three-film series meant to bring the Fast and the Furious to a satisfying end after 10 films are complete. In addition to Diesel, Jason Statham, Dwayne Johnson, and Michelle Rodriguez will return. While many details of the plot are under wraps, at least part of the action will take place in New York City.
- Logan (March 3)
The third stand-alone Wolverine series will take inspiration from the comic book source material to explore the last days of the mutant (played by Hugh Jackman) after the X-Men have been extinguished. This sequel is said to have a Western flair, and is expected to be the last time that Jackman will reprise his role as Wolverine.
- War for the Planet of the Apes (July 14)
The third installment of this blockbuster franchise inspired by the classic sci-fi film features Woody Harrelson, Andy Serkis, Steve Zahn, and Judy Greer, with Matt Reeves (Cloverfield) directing based on his own screenplay. The movie will feature Harrelson as the Colonel, leading a human army in a massive fight to the death with the ape invaders.
- Alien: Covenant (May 19)
This long-awaited sequel to 2013's Prometheus also serves as a prequel to the original Alien film from 1979. Michael Fassbender plays David, the sole inhabitant of a planet that the crew of the Covenant is attempting to colonize. Though there will be plenty of action, insiders say this movie will return to the story's horrific roots.
Kevin hails from New York City where he is a marketing associate by day and blogger by night. He has always been a huge movie buff, and his favorite director is Quentin Tarantino. When he isn't glued to a movie or writing about one you can find him upstate snowboarding or making YouTube videos (which never get enough views).
